Possible contribution of cerebellar disinhibition in epilepsy

چکیده
ObjectiveWe hypothesize that loss of inhibition from the cerebellum can lead to cortical activation and seizures.BackgroundThe traditional model for development seizures purports source is increased electrical activity originating cerebral neurons. Studies have shown a decrease in results shift hyperexcitable state, which may seizures. Interestingly, 1978 study suggested term “disorder disinhibition” as way describe epilepsy studies chronic cerebellar stimulation.Design/methodsCases experimental lesions been implicated were reviewed. Cases has targeted treatment also included. Twenty-six case reports are presented this report.ResultsThe cases show epileptiform activity. Purkinje cell linked occurrence animals. The majority patients with seizure free after complete resection, while less than half partial resection. Novel treatments using deep-brain stimulation targeting structures demonstrated therapeutic benefits seizures.ConclusionsAlthough pathophysiology not well-understood, likely plays an inherent role inhibiting aberrant epileptogenesis. Cerebellar cause due areas or through intrinsic epileptic Treatments enhancing treating seizures, could potentially provide another avenue treatment.

Contribution of Somatic and Dendritic SK Channels in the Firing Rate of Deep Cerebellar Nuclei: Implication in Cerebellar Ataxia
Introduction: Loss of inhibitory output from Purkinje cells leads to hyperexcitability of the Deep Cerebellar Nuclei (DCN), which results in cerebellar ataxia. Also, inhibition of small-conductancecalcium-activated potassium (SK) channel increases firing rate f DCN, which could cause cerebellar ataxia. Therefore, SK channel activators can be effective in reducing the symptoms of this disease, ...

1. Seizure semiology of these patients was not included in the study. Semiology may be helpful to further classify these patients as benign partial epilepsy in infancy with complex partial seizures versus benign partial epilepsy in infancy with secondary generalized seizures (SGS). Though, proposal was made to combine these syndromes in the past, some subtle differences exist such as predominan...
متن کاملCerebellar contribution to feedforward control of locomotion
The cerebellum is an important contributor to feedforward control mechanisms of the central nervous system, and sequencing-the process that allows spatial and temporal relationships between events to be recognized-has been implicated as the fundamental cerebellar mode of operation. By adopting such a mode and because cerebellar activity patterns are sensitive to a variety of sensorimotor-relate...
متن کاملContribution of Cerebellar Loops to Action Timing.
Recent studies of sensorimotor processing have benefited from decision-making paradigms that emphasize the selection of appropriate movements. Selecting when to make those responses, or action timing, is important as well. Although the cerebellum is commonly viewed as a controller of movement dynamics, its role in action timing is also firmly supported. Several lines of research have now extend...
